Anger Management Counselling
“Anger is an attempt to solve a problem, not the solution”
• My approach to anger management counselling is not behaviorally based. Rather, I explore with the client their life in totality, in a respectful manner that honors them as a whole person with many valuable traits and qualities.
• Anger is a natural and necessary emotion that serves a purpose. It signals to ourselves and others that we are not getting our needs met. When we encounter a problem for which their seems no solution our anger serves as a call for help. One of the ways that I assist people experiencing anger is to help them in finding alternate ways to meet some of the unmet needs that serve as a source of their anger.
• Our culture frowns upon the expression of anger and shows virtually no tolerance for it. This leaves little room for people to express anger and consequently anger is often suppressed or turned inwards. As a consequence people can lose touch with their anger until it bursts out all of a sudden, or if their anger is turned inwards they may become depressed. To this end, I also help clients dissipate accumulated anger by assisting them in articulating their anger, exploring its origins and healing the hurt behind the anger.
• By choosing to work with me as your anger management counsellor you will be supported through the process of finding ways to express your anger appropriately and alternate ways to get your needs met. We will also work together towards healing the wounds that have contributed to your accumulated anger. Throughout the process you can be assured I will be respectful, nonjudgemental and accepting.
